Tennis Elbow

Tennis Elbow, inflammation or sometimes micro-tearing of the tendons on the outer side of elbow, can occur due to several reasons, the primary being repetitive wrist and arm motions. The forearm muscles and tendons get damaged due to overuse from repeating the same motions again and again.

Sportsmen playing tennis or other racquet sports are often diagnosed with this inflammation, thus the name - tennis elbow.

Not only the sportsmen, several other professionals, such as painters, plumbers, carpenters and butchers, who need to repetitively use their forearm muscle or extend wrist and hand are prone to this kind of inflammation.

The primary symptom of the tennis elbow is pain or severe burning sensation that usually occurs on the outside of the elbow or in the forearm and wrist. Other symptoms include weak grip strength and often severe pain during the night.

Before diagnosing, the orthopaedic need to consider several factors and may have to ask you for some tests including x-rays or MRIs as per the severity of the disease. Usually, it can be treated with some medications, rest and physical therapy or braces. Some of the patients not responding to medications need injections. Surgery might be needed under severe conditions.
